The small-station example
The radio project on this site is a local station with an existing live stream. I built a phone app for the stream, show clock, and lock screen, plus a small station site so staff can see what is on the air and what is sold beside it.
It was about $500 to build, followed by $20 a month in care. Those numbers describe that project’s limited scope. They are not a price for every station app or a multi-station broadcast platform.
When a custom app is the right choice
A radio app builder may already do everything you need. If the job is a standard branded player and schedule, compare the available products before commissioning software.
Custom development is worth discussing when your listener experience, staff workflow, or ownership requirements need a different shape. Tell me what the available tools cannot do for your station.
Scope the stream, the app, and the upkeep
Bring the stream and a clear description of the listening experience. We need to discuss:
- The existing stream source and who operates it.
- Live listening, show schedules, and the controls listeners actually need.
- How staff update the schedule or station information.
- Devices, distribution, developer accounts, and any additional platform requirements.
- Care when the stream, schedule, or station’s needs change.

Questions before a build
Do I need an existing stream?
The published example uses an existing live stream. If you also need help establishing a stream, explain that in the brief so we can agree on the additional scope.
Are podcasts, push notifications, or in-car apps included?
They are not part of the published project scope. If you need them, say so. I will assess the requirements rather than assume they are included.
Can a station outside Iowa hire you?
Yes. Remote radio-station projects are welcome throughout the United States. The brief, build, and ongoing care are handled directly with me.
